Nascar.com posted a pretty cool interview with Boris Said yesterday that I thought was worth the read. There isn’t too much about racing in it but it was pretty entertaining. Apparently Boris performs this interview over the phone in the middle of a golf course. His handicap is down to six, so watch out Tiger.

Per ESPN’s NASCAR Now show, it has came to light that Boris Said’s No Fear Racing team will be merging with Rick Clark Motorsports for the 2009 season. The merged team plans to run 12-18 Sprint Cup races. With this merger, it will make Rick Clark the majority owner. Rick Clark has been trying to organize a team in either the Nationwide or Sprint Cup series for the past couple of years. Clark has also led the Drive for Diversity initiative in NASCAR in the past.
There is no currently no mention of sponsors, car number, or manufacturer. The current status of the alliances with Roush-Fenway & Yates Racing, and also Carter-Simo Racing, are also unknown at this time.
Boris is an ESPN reporter on NASCAR Now.

The 2009 Sprint Cup/Nationwide Series season plans for Boris Said are practically an unknown at this point. It seems that Boris is participating minimally with Roush-Fenway or Yates Racing, as his No Fear team has merged with the previous EM-Motorsports team. This has created a new team under the banner of Carter-Simo Racing. EM-Motorsports only qualified for one Sprint Cup race in 2008, with the journeyman driver of Johnny Sauter. The car that Boris will be using for the Daytona 500 was still prepped by Roush-Yates and didn’t have a connection with EM.
Boris may have had to pursue other opportunities outside of the Roush-Yates camp, due to many additions in that camp. Yates Racing has completed an acquisition of Hall of Fame Racing and has added previous champion Bobby Labonte to their stable. After the 2009 season, NASCAR is requiring all teams to have only 4 cars. Roush-Fenway currently has 5 cars and may send one of its cars to the Yates/Hall of Fame team. This would essentially eliminate Boris’s #60 Ford.
As stated, Boris will be competing for an unknown number of races under the Carter-Simo Racing Banner driving the #08 Ford Fusion. Boris was able to garner sponsorship dollars for the Daytona 500 with Scotts Miracle-Gro and also with associate sponsors; U.S. Chrome, Frigidaire, and No Fear Energy. Boris qualified 6th fastest of the “Go or Go Home” cars for the 500 and will be trying to race his way in on Thursday, Feb. 12th in the Gatorade Duels.
At this point, Boris has not stated any Nationwide races in which he’ll participate. Keep referring to The UnOfficial Boris Said Fan Site for any updates!!!
Boris in 2008: A Year in Review

It can be noted that Boris Said experienced a very lackluster 2008 stock car season. With only 7 combined race attempts in both the Sprint Cup & Nationwide Series, Boris’s troubles essentially point to sponsors not lining up to support the afro-haired driver. Boris was entering the 3rd season of running his #60 No Fear Energy Ford, with an alliance with Roush-Fenway and Yates Racing. Through his friendship with Mark Simo, he was able to keep No Fear on board, but failed to acquire any additional sponsorship throughout the ‘08 season.
Of the 4 attempts in the highest-tier of Sprint Cup, Boris failed to qualify twice; at the Daytona 500 and also at Watkins Glen. The Watkins Glen race is definitely a weird situation. Boris failed to qualify his own #60 No Fear Ford, but Petty Enterprises came calling and replaced Kyle Petty with Boris in the #45 Marathon Oil Dodge. This was the beginning for Kyle Petty’s on-again, off-again relationship with his father’s race team. Boris failed to capitalize on this situation, as he battled through the terrible Petty equipment, and placed the car in a 24th place finish.
Of Boris’s other Sprint Cup appearances, the results were still lacking. The #60 Ford experienced shock issues at Sonoma on way to a 14th place finish. And also at the second Daytona race, Boris was involved in a crash which resulted a 35th finish.
Boris has always been one to examine other racing opportunities, as he competed in three Nationwide Series events in 2008. By staying loyal to the Ford Racing camp, Boris was able to team with Rensi Motorsports to drive their #25 Team Smithfield Ford in two road course races; Mexico City and Montreal. When one thinks of Mexico City, you may remember the Australian Marcos Ambrose taking advantage of Boris and shot-putting him across the road course. Minus the 35th place finish, this race was enjoyable to watch as Boris walked down pit road to chat with Ambrose’s crew chief. The Montreal race was plagued with rain, as the Nationwide cars had their first outing with rain tires and windshield wipers. Even with the slippery track, Boris brought his Ford to a 5th place finish.
Boris also competed in the Watkins Glen Nationwide race; but this time with Jimmy Means Racing and the #52 No Fear Energy Ford. Mechanical issues affected the #52 all day and Boris ended the day in 27th place.

I know I’ve neglected you for far too long. If you couldn’t guess, I’m a college student which partially explains my on again off again posting. Sometimes my life is so hectic I forget to eat and other times its so boring I run out of movies to watch. The life of a college student is definitely a love hate relationship. Anyways, forget all of that because I’m due to graduate in May. This will leave me much less stressed in the evening so I’ll be able to pay more attention to this site (I know you’re all snickering)…at least thats what I’m hoping. Speaking of which, if anyone knows where I can get a Web Design/Development job in the southern half of the United States I’d love to hear about it.
I’ve read your comments as you posted them and several of you have asked for a means to contact me so you can alert me of Boris Said news that I am perhaps unaware of. I plan to update the sidebar to have an ‘email the webmaster’ link, but until that time you can reach me at borissaid [AT] vt [DOT] edu. Obviously you’ll want to replace the items in brackets with the characters I’m describing. I heard somewhere that writing an email address like this online will result in less spam, but who can really tell?
Keep a look out this evening for the next post reviewing the 2008 year.
