In an unlikely turn of events, Boris Said qualified to start 9th at Sonoma.  The race is tomorrow (June 21) at 4:30pm and will be carried on TNT.  While Said’s car had been described to me as ‘mediocre’ he turned in a solid qualifying run.  My main Nascar knowledge guy hypothesized that perhaps he borrowed his engine from Roush (unconfirmed of course).

This is just an FYI–your beloved webmaster doesn’t get any benefit.  However, it can’t hurt to help out Boris’s sponsors…

I bought a 4 pack of No Fear yesterday and noticed there is a rewards program going on.  I tested it out and its pretty easy to use with some good prizes if you get enough points.  It basically works like Coke Rewards…under the ‘pop top’ of each can there is a code that you enter on the NoFear.com website.  You spin a wheel and they assign you points (or if I you’re reallllly lucky a handful of wild prizes).  Collect enough points to redeem them for No Fear hoodies, hats, shirts, etc.

The designs on the prizes are pretty good too.  Here is a shirt example:

By the way, after three cans I already have 130 points…that means I can defintely score a shirt or something before the end of this thing in August.  Seems that each can is guaranteed 10 points.  I was lucky enough to spin 100 on my third can.

If you hadn’t already figured it out, the RCM No Fear team will not debut this weekend.  With the hopes of saving precious sponsorship money and yielding better results.  Boris Said will make his 2009 debut (with the new team, that is) at Infineon in June.  Infineon is, of course, one of Said’s favorite tracks and a place where he performs very well each year.  The idea is to start the team at a place where they have a real shot win the race the first time out.

In addition, it has been made clear that, as of now Boris Said will attempt to run a full time schedule for the 2010 schedule.

Boris Said failed to qualify the #08 Scotts/U.S. Chrome Ford Fusion on Thursday in the second race of the Gatorade Duels. Boris came across bad luck when his right front tire blew and forced Boris straight into the wall. Said’s car also collected Scott Speed’s Toyota Camry.

Boris did not mention the next race that he will be entered in, but if the RCM No Fear Racing merger announcement is correct; Boris will be entered at the upcoming Atlanta race.

Boris Said is scheduled to compete in 12-18 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series races behind the wheel of the No. 60 Ford in 2009 after the team announced a merger with Rick Clark Motorsports.

Clark, an African American businessman who spent eight years in the NFL as an agent for several players, was lured to the appeal of NASCAR and the opportunity to create a multicultural approach to auto racing which focuses on America’s youth by noted friend and ESPN lead broadcaster Dr. Jerry Punch.

The team will create a platform from which other marketing programs will be launched to increase inclusion in the industry.

“We have several verticals that all work together to create a comprehensive program,” Clark said. “Those verticals will not only work to encourage minorities to attend races, but to make NASCAR part of the various minority cultures to create a feeling of ownership in the sport among those groups.

“We have an urban-wear clothing line in the works called Krewe Wear with the tag line ‘Who’s in your Krewe?” The clothing line is one of several reasons why No Fear is such a good fit for us, as they are an established brand among 18 to 24-year-olds with a global distribution network.”

In addition to Clark, prominent Wall Street and emerging markets finance layer, Al Tindall, is a principal in the RCM No Fear Racing Team.

The team is scheduled to make its debut at Atlanta Motor Speedway in March and is expected to compete at the restrictor-plate and road course events where Said has had past success.
