Watkins Glen International will resume the LIVE driver chats on the WGI Fan Talk Forum on Wednesday, July 16th and will get things started with a Glen champion and true fan favorite.  2006 Sahlen’s Six Hours of The Glen champion and current NASCAR Sprint Cup Series driver Boris Said will be the first featured guest and will be available for fans questions from 7:30 PM – 8:00 PM.

The live chat is open to all race fans that are registered on the WGI Fan Talk Forum.  All fans will need to do in order to participate is log into the fan forum and click on the link that appears following a successful login.  Not registered yet?  Simply log-on to the WGI Fan Talk Forum (www.TheGlen.com/forum), fill out the registration form and you are ready to post!

This is the first of four 30-minute live chats that will feature drivers from the NASCAR Sprint Cup, NASCAR Nationwide and Grand-Am Rolex Sports Car Series leading up to the Centurion Boats at The Glen weekend, August 7-10.  The first chat will feature Boris Said on July 16th and the second chat will feature Grand-Am Rolex Series star Scott Pruett on July 23rd.  The third and fourth chats will feature drivers from the NASCAR Sprint Cup or NASCAR Nationwide Series on July 30th and August 6th.

Boris Said’s popularity at The Glen is well documented.  His fan club, the famed “Said Heads” originated at The Soul of American Road Racing. Members are easily distinguishable by the large wigs they wear to pay tribute to the hair-do of their favorite driver.  Said has met with a great deal of success at The Glen in several series including the NASCAR Sprint Cup, NASCAR Nationwide and Grand-Am Rolex Sports Car Series.  His record at The Glen is made up of numerous Top-10 finishes including his victory in the 2006 Sahlen’s Six Hours of The Glen.  He pulled double-duty during last year’s Centurion Boats at The Glen weekend and this year fans should expect him to compete in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Centurion Boats at The Glen and NASCAR Nationwide Series Zippo 200 during the event weekend, August 7-10.

Origins
By now, every involved Nascar fan has seen, read about, or heard about the altercation between Marcos Ambrose and Boris Said at Mexico City this past weekend.  In its most basic form, the wreck involved Boris Said’s rear bumper and Marcos Ambrose’s nose.  Contact was made; Boris spun out and eventually sustained some serious damage, taking him out of the race; Ambrose continued driving and placed second in the race.

According to a press release…

Boris Said’s No Fear Racing team will not attempt to run this weekend at Talladega. Said was running in the top 10 in Mexico City when he got caught up in a wreck on a restart with less than 30 laps to go. “We can’t really turn our program around (in a short amount of time), and we’re just not ready,” Said says. “We’ve only got three people working in our shop.” No Fear Racing’s next Sprint Cup attempt will be the road course event in June at Infineon Raceway. Said then will try to make the July race at Daytona, followed by the August road course race at Watkins Glen and the October race at Talladega. Said also plans to have his team field a car for all three Nationwide Series road course events. . . .

Sorry, no time this week for an extensive writeup on this article…

I was amazed that he only has a three man shop crew…somehow I guess I expected at least five or six. Its amazing that they have the capability that they do with only three guys in there.

Edit: The decision not to run this race is NOT a result of the wreck at Mexico City. This news was announced before that race.

First things first, go to Advance Auto Parts and buy a big bucket and some car parts. Step 2, go to 7-11 and buy a case of Corona and a 4-pack of Sobe No Fear (now missing Sobe on the label by the way…more on that later). Next, and most important, mix all of the ingredients in your giant bucket and you have a summation of the race in Mexico City this weekend.

Boris Said is on the entry list, as expected. He’ll be driving the #25 No Fear/Advance Auto Parts Ford. Taking the place of Bobby Hamilton Jr. in this race will give Boris his fourth straight start in the Nationwide Series race. The car is owned by Team Rensi Motorsports. Read more

It has been reported that Team Rensi Motorsports has signed on Boris Said to compete at Mexico City and Montreal. This looks like a great deal for Boris to get more seat time, even though they are just in the Nationwide Series.

Frank Stoddard, crew chief, will follow Boris and again command the troops at these two races. Read more
